Disciple and Discipleship-IV (Conclusion)

Depending upon our foregoing study, we can come to the following conclusion:

1. Jesus is your singular passion in whom you delight in more than anyone or anything else.

2. You must reject any activity, priority, or plan that does not reflect the person and activities of Jesus Christ.

3. You believe that your time and daily activities no longer belong to you but to Jesus. You may have to drop whatever you were doing to allow Jesus to minister to others through you.

4. You commit your time, talent and treasure to God; you must have the mindset that your resources don’t belong to you any more.

5. Jesus laid His life for us. We must be ready to make any sacrifice for our brothers and sisters who might be less fortunate than you.

6. You must be prepared to give up the love and relationship of your family if called to do so. You must prepared to sacrifice your wealth, your job, your social status, your friends and contacts, education etc. as a disciple of the Lord.

7. You must be willing to endure the cost of mockery, even by those who love you the most. Remember David, Hezekiah, Nehemiah—who all were victims of mockery; the terrible mockery our Lord suffered.

8. You must be ready to be considered a fool for committing yourself to a life of servant-hood for the sake of Jesus Christ.

9. You must be willing to endure public humiliation and torture for the sake of Jesus Christ. Remember Christians are the most persecuted group in history.

10. You may experience personal pain caused by others, whether mentally or physically, because of your devotion to Jesus Christ.

11. You see sin as God sees sin, ugly. Remember what Joseph told Potiphar’s wife, Tamar told Amnon.

12. You must not be ashamed to promote the Good News of Jesus Christ. Admittedly this is very difficult, but God expects this of every believer. Do not miss any opportunity God gives you.

13. You must be ready to make decisions that will give God the most glory even though it may hurt your or someone else’s selfish plans.

14. Even Your leisure activities/hobbies must be God-honoring.

15. You must serve the Lord in total humility. Remember Abraham, Job et al.

16. Don’t tolerate sin in your personal life. Stand against Satan and he will flee from you. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you: James 4:7

17. You must only face one direction.  You must only go in one direction.
You must never look back with regret. (Philippians 3:13,14 Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize of God’s heavenly calling in Christ Jesus).

18. You must be a godly servant-leader who actively pours your life into others. Remember Moses’ prayer, St Paul’s wish.

19. You must not to go outside your comfort zone to serve the Lord.

20. You set aside your own privileges to minister to others, even those of whom you dislike or are high-minded.

21. You truly love with God’s love and will allow others to love you in return.

22. Avoid pretence, be transparent, and honest about the person that you are and stay away from “false humility.”

23. Know God’s Word thoroughly for the purpose of your personal worship. Read the scripture deeply, meditate upon it and obey it implicitly.

24. Contribute your time, talent and money generously to your local church and avoid church politics.

25. Remain actively dependent upon the Holy Spirit. Let your activities reflex the fruits of the Holy Spirit.

26. You protect with all your might God’s interests, God’s truth, and God’s people.

27. Make prayer your total attitude towards life, not just an activity.

28. Minister to others using your spiritual gifts. See 2Tiimothy 1:6, 7.

29. You consistently and actively make disciples of others.

30. Actively disregard the temptations of the flesh.

31. You resist the influences of the sinful world that surrounds you.

32. Actively consider yourselves an alien and wayfarer in this world and don’t develop any dangerous attachment to it.

33. You put your talent to maximum use for the glory of God.

34. You consistently demonstrate contentment no matter what the circumstance (whether you have much or have little).

35. Don’t run away from your problems, but actively face your problems in the strength of Jesus Christ. Understand the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.

36. Be joyful whatever the circumstances. “Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all He has done”. (Philippians 4:6)

37. You run to and not run away from God’s calling on your life. See 1Kings 19:25.

39. Remain consistently patient, waiting for God’s timing.

40. You make church decisions that will enable spiritual growth in your church.

41. As a husband/wife join with your spouse and honour God through your marriage. Be patient and carry the extra burden cheerfully if your mate is not a believer

42. You must be pained to see Christians who claim to be believers but who in reality, are only serving God when it is convenient to their selfish interests. You must be pained to see others worshipping false gods.

43. Encourage and inspire them to turn into true believers, even if it means going out of the way.

44. You must have a missions-mindset and give more to missions and help the evangelists in their work.

45. You must whole-heartedly believe that the earth is not our permanent home, we are here as aliens and wayfarers. You believe Jesus will return to judge the earth; He will take us to our true home which is the New Jerusalem or heaven.

46. As a soldier of the living God you mustn’t get entangled in civilian matters, but finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given you.

47. You must make a strong impression on the lives of others. Jesus and the apostles didn’t   just minister to those things or areas where they felt most comfortable. You must accept change no matter how difficult it was going to be and be ready to be used as an instrument to magnify His name and fulfill the Great Commission.

48. Always remain joyful. Do not give room to anger, or bitterness, or
discontentment or sorrow.

49. You have heard me teach things that have been confirmed by many reliable witnesses. Now teach these truths to other trustworthy people who will be able to pass them on to others. (2Tiimothy 2:2)

50. You must have a strong belief in the trustworthy message you were taught; then you will be able to encourage others with wholesome teaching and show those who oppose it where they are wrong. (Titus 1:9)

Finally: 1Timothy 6:11-14

But you, O man of God, flee from these things and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, perseverance, and gentleness. 12 Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called when you made the good confession before many witnesses. 13 I charge you in the presence of God, who gives life to all things, and of Christ Jesus, who made the good confession in His testimony before Pontius Pilate: 14 Keep this commandment without stain or reproach until the appearance of our Lord Jesus Christ.
