WAITING ON THE LORD

Image
WAITING  ON THE LORD  Waiting on the Lord may be one of the most difficult aspects of the Christian life. The concept of "waiting" in Christian life is found various forms in the Bible -- to wait up on, to wait on, to wait at, to wait for, to wait patiently, await etc.   The most important and frequent use of the word is to define the attitude of a soul towards God. The waiting implies, of course, the expectant attitude of faith, a listening ear, a heart responding to the calling of God. It describes an eager anticipation and yearning for the revelation of truth and love as it is in God. Waiting on God reminds us that God is in control of our lives.  We come accross the expression frequently in the Old Testament: Psalms 69:3 I am exhausted from crying for help ... waiting for my God to help me. Psalms 33:20 Our soul has waited for the Lord;  Psalms 27:4 Wait for the LORD; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the LORD!  The idea of...

CHRIST'S THRONE

Image
CHRIST IS KING. KING OF KINGS.  Christ is king of truth, king of salvation (Matthew 21:5; Zechariah 9:9 ); king of grace; king of peace (Luke 19:38; Hebrews 7:2 ); king of righteousness (Hebrews 1:8; Hebrews 7:2 ); king of glory (Matthew 25:31-34 ); He is also said to be king eternal; king of saints and king of the ages elsewhere. The book of Revelation mentions His throne 35 times as we can see below :    Revelation 3 : 21 I will invite everyone who is victorious to sit with me on my throne, just as I was victorious and sat with my Father on His throne.  Revelation 4 : 2, 3, 4, 5 And instantly I was in the Spirit, and I saw a throne in heaven and someone sitting on it! The one sitting on the throne was as brilliant as gemstones—jasper and carnelian. And the glow of an emerald circled his throne like a rainbow. And the glow of an emerald circled his throne like a rainbow (5:1). Twenty-four thrones surrounded him, and twenty-four elders sat on them. They were all clot...

GIVE US THIS DAY..

Image
Every new day's dawn is a distinct blessing in our lives. Bearing in mind that this day might be our last  will  help us realize how precious every moment is. "The Lord's unfailing love and mercy still continue, fresh as the morning, as sure as the sunrise" asserted Jeremiah  (Lamentations 3:22-23). Isaiah 58:8 says "Then my favour will shine on you like the morning sun, and your wounds will be quickly healed. I will always be with you to save you; my presence will protect you on every side". I have arranged the following seven promises and the accompanying meditations to lead you through the week: SUNDAY Psalms 118:24 This is the day the Lord has made. We will rejoice and be glad in it. "Give us this day our daily bread'' Jesus taught us to pray. Every day He adds to our life is a special gift. To a believer who has commited his life to the Lord, every hour of the day is precious. "Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days o...

WHY DID JESUS PRAY?

Image
Why did Jesus have to pray? What was the reason for Him to pray, while He was God Himself? Who did He pray to? Did He pray to Himself? These and many other related questions have bothered eminent theologians over the course of church history. Most believers would have at some point wondered about this. I believe this question can be answered simply by considering the following principles: 1. At His human incarnation Jesus was 100%  a man as if He were not God. As the perfect Man who ever lived, He had to pray to the Father God.  2. As He did in all other walks of life, He set an example for us to emulate, by praying. e.g. He prayed on the cross for those who were crucifying Him as He had taught us to pray for our enemies. See Matthew 5:44-50.  3. As the Perfect Son of the Perfect Father, co-existant and co-equal to God, He had to continue His pre-incarnate practice by relating to the Father in every step of His ministry on the earth . The Gospels tell us that Jesus habitu...

JACOB'S LADDER

Image
Jacob's Ladder is one of the fascinating episodes we witness in the Bible. Jacob, the Biblical patriarch and the second son of Isaac didn't start his life as a saint. His very name meant 'trickster'.  Our story starts at a point when he was fleeing from home after deceiving his father  and stealing his brother's birthright from him.   That night, as he was sleeping with a stone under his head, at the middle of nowhere,  he had a strange dream. He saw a ladder that was placed on the earth with its top reaching to heaven and angels of God ascending and descending on it. (Genesis 21:12). He saw God standing above it and making this momentous statement: "I am the Lord, the God of Abraham and Isaac. I will give to you and to your descendants this land on which you are lying. They will be as numerous as the specks of dust on the earth. They will extend their territory in all directions, and through you and your descendants I will bless all the nations" (Gene...

THE CHILDREN OF THE BIBLE

Image
O Lord, our Lord,     your greatness is seen in all the world! Your praise reaches up to the heavens;  it is sung by children and babies.  (Psalm 8:1-2) THE HEBREWS OF BIBLICAL TIMES REGARDED the presence of children in the family as a mark of Divine favor and greatly to be desired. Psalms 127:3 says "Children are a gift from the Lord;  they are a real blessing".   If a wife proved childless, other wife or wives would be added to the family.  If a man died childless his brother had to  marry his widow, the children of such union being considered the dead brother's.   The gift of a son from Yahweh was the height of joy; the loss of a child marked the depth of woe.   When God informed Abraham He will bless him abundantly and he will become a great nation, Abraham asked Him petulantly  what good was this blessing, as long as  he remained childless! Rachel was angry as she had no children and blamed Jac...

Dangerous Times

THERE ARE BASICALLY two different opinions about the future of the earth and mankind.  Science holds that humans are poised for great development and the future appears glorious. While it is true that mankind is in dire straits due to economic inequity, diseases, illiteracy, crime, terrorism etc, the answer to all these ills lies in economic and scientific development. A start has been made already in this direction and with increased awareness, social justice and an accelerated growth rate, everybody would be happy. If man tries hard enough, he can create a heaven on earth; there is no other heaven.  But the Bible holds a diametrically opposite view. This earth is destined for total annihilation  and a new earth and new heaven would replace it at the Second Coming of Jesus. The Bible speaks in scores of places about what would be the signs of the last days. I have given below some of them along with explanation. The subject of eschatology is enormous and what you...
